Look for Updates Here

To repeat all the information in one place, on Tuesday February 27th:

1) There will be a wake at Murphy Funeral Home [4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA, 22203, (703) 920-4800] from 11AM to 1PM.

2) There will be a graveside service at Arlington National Cemetery at 2PM.

3) There will be a party in celebration of John's life at the Fairview Park Marriott [3111 Fairview Park Drive, Falls Church, VA, 22042, (703) 849-9400] beginning at 4PM.

Rooms are available at the Fairview Park Marriott. Rooms are also available under the Quinlan Group at the
Comfort Inn Pentagon [2480 S. Glebe Road, Arlington, VA, 22206, (703) 682-5500]. Please check through the comments sections in the posts below for additional possible hotels; most people are staying at the Comfort Inn Pentagon or the Fairview Park Marriott.

One last thing - the DC metro area received 4 to 6 inches of snow on Sunday. There should still be snow on the grounds at Arlington on Tuesday, so be sure to dress warmly and with sturdy footwear.

Updated Mon Feb 26th 10:56AM: The party at the Marriott at 4PM will be an all-cash bar. Sorry for the change, but the large expected number of people and the prices the hotel were quoting drove the cost up.

John's Medals and Decorations

Chief Warrant Officer John A. Quinlan's medals and decorations include:

The Distinguished Flying Cross (awarded for heroism or extraordinary achievement in an aerial flight), the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal for Valor, three Air Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the (Saudi Arabia) Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Combat Action Badge, and the Senior Aviation Badge.

Beers, Tears, and Cheers

The party in celebration of John's life will begin at 4PM at the Fairview Park Marriott in Falls Church, VA. Here are some directions from Arlington to the Marriott. There will be hot appetizers, wine, and beer. Cash bar for hard alcohol. All are invited.

The burial will be on Tuesday February 27th. Times will be updated later today or tomorrow. The wake will be either Monday night the 26th or Tuesday morning before the burial.

Out-of-towners should consider getting a hotel room for two nights, the 26th and 27th, as it may be an early start on the 27th and will be a long day. Hotel info posted shortly.

Asking for Prayers

John's cousin Tracy passed this along, and I'd like to share it:

The following letter along with the Asbury Park Press article will be distributed to over 500 families Fri Feb 23rd. In honor of John, Drew and I requested that the American Flag at our school, Immaculate Conception, be lowered to half-staff on the day of John's burial. Also on that day, the entire school along with Monsignor Andy, will pause and pray together for John and his family.

----

Last weekend we lost yet another hero, only this one hits close to home. Army Chief Warrant Officer John A. Quinlan, our cousin and our friend, died Sunday when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter he piloted crashed in Afghanistan. We would like to ask that you remember John and his family in your prayers during this very difficult time. John is survived by his wife Julie and their three daughters - Kelly 10, Maddy 8, and Erin 3.

In honor of John and all the heroes that have died fighting for our freedom, the American Flag at our school will be lowered to half-staff next week on the day of his burial service. He will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.

If you are interested in contributing to a college fund set up for John's three daughters, please go to http://johnquinlan.blogspot.com/ for more information.

Honor all the brave men and women who risk their lives every day to keep America safe and give our children a bright future.

Memorial Service today (Wed Feb 21)

There will be a memorial service at Fort Campbell today.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Julie and the three girls (Keely, Madeline, Erin); Bob & Kate (John's parents); and Susan, Greg, Olivia, & Will (John's sister and family).

Final arrangements have yet to be made, although it is expected there will be a service at Arlington National Cemetery sometime next week. There will also be a wake for John at a funeral home in Virginia the night before the burial at Arlington.

I am coming up with a list of hotels for out-of-town guests, which will be posted here in the next day or so.
