The burial will be on Tuesday February 27th. Times will be updated later today or tomorrow. The wake will be either Monday night the 26th or Tuesday morning before the burial.
Out-of-towners should consider getting a hotel room for two nights, the 26th and 27th, as it may be an early start on the 27th and will be a long day. Hotel info posted shortly.
Updated (Fri Feb 23rd 3:24 pm EST): A wake will be held at Murphy Funeral Home (4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA) from 11AM to 1PM on Tue Feb 27th. There will then be a graveside service at Arlington National Cemetery at 2PM.
There will be a gathering to celebrate John's life on Tuesday afternoon/evening. All will be invited; details to come. It may be in a hotel ballroom to accomodate everyone. Once the location and time are determined, the hotel name will be updated here. I will post a list of area hotels in the comments section.

Below is a list of area hotels near Arlington National Cemetery. Thanks to my father's cousin - Paul Mocko - who lives in the area and provided this list.
You may wish to wait until we know where the Tuesday evening gathering will be held before booking a non-refundable room. All of these hotels are quite close to both the Cemetery and funeral home.
Here is the list:

It might also be a good idea to make a room reservation now. I've been told that some of these hotels have only a few rooms available. When you do call, ask what their cancellation policy is, in case you want to move to a location closer to the Tuesday evening gathering.
Also, when you do call, ask if they give an AAA, AARP, or government rate (if you qualify for any of them).
(thanks to Paul and Maddy Mocko for the advice)
Ok - Hyatt, Sherton and Hilton are all sold out in area... Westin and Marriott are 300+ a night - But the Greenbelt Marriot in Greenbelt, Maryland was wide open and rooms were less then 200 -- I am booked there... If someone finds something closer I'll move..
Thanks to "Angel" for the info. She asked me to delete her earlier post claiming the Courtyard Marriott in Rosslyn had plenty of rooms. Turns out that is not the case.
Greenbelt, MD is not exactly that close to Arlington, although one advantage is that the Greenbelt hotel is very close to the highway. My parents have stayed there and it is nice.
If Greenbelt is the closest you can get - I might recommend staying instead in Bowie, MD. It's only a little further, the rooms will probably be cheaper, it's also right off the highway, and we live in Bowie - so folks can caravan over there with us if needed:
Hampton Inn Bowie
15202 Major Lansdale Blvd., Bowie, MD
(301) 809-1800
Comfort Inn Bowie
4500 Crain Hwy, Bowie, MD
(301) 464-0089
Quality Inn
4500 Crain Hwy, Bowie, MD
(301) 464-2200
(might be the same place as above)
Alison and I will post another list of northern VA hotels that may still be closer, but more available and inexpensive.

Lots of rooms available at the Comfort Inn that Paul Mocko suggested. Drew and I, along with Barbie and Jim booked our stay at this hotel. Cancellation is 24 hours prior which gives us a few days to find out where the gathering is. Only $129, and about 3 miles from the cemetary.
Tracy
Johnny, I still can't believe your gone. Everytime I think about it, the memories of our days at Cherry Point come flooding back into my head. You were such a good friend and I'll never forget the big "gummy" smile on your face. I'm so fortunate to have met such a wonderful person and I'll always treasure the time we had together. Your life will live on in all of us who knew you and spent time with you. You touched us in a way no one else could have. You will missed!!! Our mission now is to be there for your family and to hold them up as they try to continue their lives with out you. I want you to know that your friends are up to that task and we accept the responsibility that goes along with the job. Julie, Keeley, Madeline, Erin, Bob, Kathleen, and Susan, please know that you can call on Johns' "Marine" Buddies for anything you may need. We will be here for you for as long and as often as you need us!! God Speed John, we know you will still be with us until we can join you in Heaven!! Semper Fi! Darren
